What is ESOL?

This is a non-credit course for adults who want to learn English as a second language.  Classes are designed to increase your ability to communicate in English in order to find work, continue with lifelong learning and for life in the United States as parents and a community member. 

Who is Eligible?

Adult students must be at least 16 years of age and not currently enrolled in a school district K-12 program.  The English Language Learner must be a speaker of another language.

How do you enroll in ESOL Classes?

To enroll in class, you will find a location closest to you and attend on the scheduled intake night to complete a student registration and take an entrance assessment for placement.  The Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System test, (CASAS) will determine placement in the correct class level.  The assessment covers both reading and listening.  Registration and assessment takes approximately two hours to complete.

*Testing spaces are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Effective July 1, 2011

Students will pay $30.00 per session (must be paid with cash or money order)  if they:

·    Attended one of the School District of Lee County Adult Education Programs (GED/ESOL) for a minimum of 12 hours during the 2010-2011 school year

THE ONLY REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR RETURNING STUDENTS IS A PHOTO ID

OR

·    Are able to produce the required documentation that the student lived for a minimum of 12 months in the state of Florida.  click here for acceptable documentation   click here for information in Spanish

Students will pay $120.00 per session (must be paid with cash or money order)  if they are unable to provide the required documents to show they have lived in the state of Florida for a minimum of 12 months.
